Learn how to type and also how to type faster - tips to improve your typing speed and achieve better typing test scores
Hello dear friend! How fast can you type? Did you ever wonder how fast I type? We have answered this question. While most people can type 40 words per minute, experts can type 80+ words per minute. In the following guide, we shall show you how to learn typing online. You will also learn how to type faster.
Many users of this website have achieved 100+ WPM (words per minute) scores in typing test WPM. Do you know how this is possible in typing tests? Although there are several reasons behind such high scores in typing tests, there are two main reasons – (a) muscle memory and (b) practice, practice, and practice.
Muscle memory can be defined as “when you do the same task over and over again, your body and brain learn to perform this task without conscious effort”. The more you practice, the better muscle memory is achieved. At this stage, your fingers know where the keys are positioned in the keyword. So, you do not need to look at the keyboard to type anything.
If you follow the typing training tips and techniques below, you can achieve 100+ typing test WPM without looking at the screen of your device such as a computer. A good typing speed will help you years after years by saving time, gaining higher productivity, ensuring efficiency, and many more.
Use a keyboard you are comfortable with
There are different shapes and sizes of keyboards. But you should use the one that you are comfortable with. Another important thing is – the larger the key sizes are, the easier it will be to type. Besides, the keys should have enough resistance to inform you that the stroke has registered. This also helps to avoid accidentally hitting keys.
Online typing test in English is a good idea
There are so many good free online typing learning resources that it is a foolish idea to practice offline. Every free online typing test is actually a free speed typing test. Stop your offline typing practice and go for only speed typing online. All our lessons let you practice and check the score just after the test.
Start easy and work your way up
It is a good idea to start practicing only letters at first. You should practice easy lessons and then slowly approach harder lessons. We have 144 typing lessons. The first lesson is very easy but the last lesson is the hardest. When you start from the first lesson and keep going to the next lessons, you will face harder lessons. This way you can slowly become a more skilled typist. So, we suggest you start your practice with very simple practices. Finish one lesson properly and then go to the next lesson. Spend time on each lesson as many times as you want.
Stretch whenever you feel stiffness or pain
When your posture is incorrect or you are typing for a long time, you may feel stiffness or pain. In such a case, you should take a break and do some stretching exercises until you do not feel the stiffness and/or pain anymore. There are many stretching videos on YouTube.com. Learn some exercises from there.
Some other important suggestions
Here go some other short but important suggestions to follow:
- If you are a beginner, it will surely take some time before see results of your typing word per minute test. Do not rush or give up. Your patience is important. Does this make sense?
- As you keep practicing, your mistakes will slowly decrease and you will gain speed. Please do not expect to see good typing speed within a short period of time.
- When you cannot concentrate and are making a lot of mistakes, take a break and come back later to continue practicing again.
- Take a free typing test whenever you need to check your free typing tests WPM.
- Finally, we are reminding you again that try each and every exercise from our 144 typing practice exercises.
You can also read the articles from our free typing lessons test page. These are theoretical discussion of free typing test lessons online.
Finally... What is your score in free typing tests WPM / free words per minute test after all these typing practice sessions?
Begin by practicing individual letters
You should start with not only the letters but also other individual keys such as numbers and symbols. Next, you should try to type words accurately. Finally, you should type sentences and paragraphs. This step by step process is easy and comfortable to follow. Take this typing test online to see how it works.
Before you go to check the free typing test WPM page, you want to try this fast typing words game.
Maintain some distance from your computer screen
Sitting too close to your computer monitor is not good for both your eyes and typing. There should be at least 45 - 70 cm of distance between your eyes and the computer screen.
Always use all ten fingers
We know everyone knows this tip but the beginners find it uncomfortable to use all ten fingers as it is new to them. Please note that the beginning is the hardest part of learning something new. The more you practice, all your fingers will be used to the keys.
Pass all of our typing lessons
Do you know we have 144 free typing lessons? The good thing is - these tests indicate which finger you should use to type each letter or number. You can use the finger indicating images or ignore them when you are able to type without any additional help. These correct finger indicator images are given at the bottom of each test.
Use a mechanical keyboard
What are mechanical keyboards? These are classic-looking sturdy keyboards. In these keyboards, underneath each keycap, there is a high-quality plastic key switch. Why do you need one of these keyboards? These keyboards help you to type at a 60+ word per minute speed. You can use one such keyboard with your laptop too. Another reason for using it is - these keyboards can give a more satisfying typing experience. Rubber keyboards are unable to give the same experience. Using a rubber keyboard can result in a less responsive typing experience. Do not choose a keyboard only because it is beautiful. Instead, choose a keyboard that you are comfortable with.
Yes, seriously. When you achieve 60 or more WPM and want to keep improve, buy a mechanical keyboard. These keyboards are ideal for typing even faster. But there are two things to remember. First, you do not need this keyboard if you are a beginner. Try this only after you achieve 60 ore more WPM as we said earler. Second, it will take some time to get used to this type of keyboard.
How about trying an online typing test 5 minutes?
Do not always try an online 1 minute typing test. There are other words per minute typing tests for 10 fast fingers such as online 2 minute typing test, online 3 minute typing test, online 5 minute typing test and online 10 minute typing test. If you take all these tests, you can check how you perform in longer tests. You may be doing good when you are typing for a minute but making mistakes when typing for a longer time.
Participate in typing contests
Do you lack motivation to practice typing? How about participating in a typing competition? There are several online typing competitions. You should participate in one or more of these competitions. You will be able to see your position immediately. Then you can try to do better than other competitors.
