Learn how to type and also how to type faster - tips to improve your typing speed and achieve better typing test scores

Hello dear friend! How fast can you type? Did you ever wonder how fast I type? We have answered this question. While most people can type 40 words per minute, experts can type 80+ words per minute. In the following guide, we shall show you how to learn typing online. You will also learn how to type faster.

Many users of this website have achieved 100+ WPM (words per minute) scores in typing test WPM. Do you know how this is possible in typing tests? Although there are several reasons behind such high scores in typing tests, there are two main reasons – (a) muscle memory and (b) practice, practice, and practice.

Muscle memory can be defined as “when you do the same task over and over again, your body and brain learn to perform this task without conscious effort”. The more you practice, the better muscle memory is achieved. At this stage, your fingers know where the keys are positioned in the keyword. So, you do not need to look at the keyboard to type anything.

If you follow the typing training tips and techniques below, you can achieve 100+ typing test WPM without looking at the screen of your device such as a computer. A good typing speed will help you years after years by saving time, gaining higher productivity, ensuring efficiency, and many more.

Online typing test in English is a good idea

There are so many good free online typing learning resources that it is a foolish idea to practice offline. Every free online typing test is actually a free speed typing test. Stop your offline typing practice and go for only speed typing online. All our lessons let you practice and check the score just after the test.

Do not take long breaks

Try to type every single day. Try to type at least 10-15 minutes even if you are busy. We are sure you can manage 15 minutes from your 24 hour day. When you take a several day long break or even a longer break, this gap weakens your finger muscle memory. Continuous typing practice will ensure more and quick benefits.

Take a break whenever you are feel strain

When you start your typing practice, the muscles of your hands will take some time to adjust. So, it is very common that you may feel strain. As you keep practicing, your hand muscles will be stronger and you will no longer feel strain. So, take a break whenever you feel your hands, neck, and shoulders are strained and resume your typing practice after the break.

Join formal training from institutions

Did you know that there are government funded institutions and also non-government institutions that teach typing? They have computers and trainers in their training centers. Sometimes there is no course fee for the full course. You can join such a program and learn from experts. There are formal online courses. Joining one of these courses is another good idea to start your typing lessons.

If you have tried to learn by yourself but failed to see improvements in an online typing test or do not find free typing test lessons online helpful, a good alternative is to take a typing class. Your instructor can personally help you. Many schools, community colleges, and education programs offer typing or keyboard classes. So, you should check to see if your institution offers a typing class.

Higher accuracy can result in higher speed typing

When you make a lot of mistakes, it slows down your speed. Did you notice? On the other hand, there is no use of fast typing speed if you are making a lot of mistakes. As a beginner, take your time and use the correct fingers to press the keys and thus, try to be accurate in your typing practice and typing speed test. The more accurate you become, the higher speed you will see.

Another point is – you waste your time, energy, productivity when you make a lot of mistakes and use the backspace key many times to delete first and then correct the errors. So, it is perfectly OK to slow down and try to be more accurate. Do not worry. Eventually, speed will follow you. When you slow down and try to be accurate, you will feel relaxed and more in control.

You should never worry about speed in practice typing test. Instead, try to be accurate in your typing test speed test online! So, feel free to slow down when you find that your typing is getting less accurate.

When you are a beginner, try to repeatedly type sample passages over and over again. It has two benefits – you gain accuracy and speed at the same time. Give a try and you will understand how it works.

First, try to be 100% accurate. So, feel free to slow your typing pace until you can attain 100% accuracy. Then go for speed. Remember what Vince Lombardi said, "Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect."

Trouble with typing some specific letters?

Most people can easily type some letters while facing trouble typing some other letters. Type your problem letters as many times you need to until it becomes easy to type those letters. You should be able to type every letter with the same level of comfort.

Take a break

If you find that you are unable to concentrate, get distracted easily or make a lot of mistakes, it means you need a break. It is okay to take a break when you are not very productive. You should come back and resume typing practice when you feel you are refreshed.

Maintain some distance from your computer screen

Sitting too close to your computer monitor is not good for both your eyes and typing. There should be at least 45 - 70 cm of distance between your eyes and the computer screen.

Try free online typing practice

On several websites, you will easily find English typing speed test online. You will find a single typing test paragraph and even typing practice paragraphs in the websites for your type writing practice test. You can quickly take a free words per minute test. Without speed typing practice, you cannot improve your typing skills. Every time you take a writing typing test, your typing accuracy and speed get better. Please do not rush. While doing your typing exercises and assessments, dedicate a good amount of time because you will get benefits for the rest of your life. The more you practice, the more your typing accuracy and speed will improve naturally. If you practice regularly, your fingers will learn the locations of keys on the keyboard through muscle memory. The day will surely come when you can type without looking at the keys. You should spend some time on a daily basis to practice so that you can improve both typing accuracy and speed.

Always use the same keyboard

If you use more than one laptop, use the same laptop. If you use a desktop, use the same keyboard. If you use only one keyboard, the muscle memory of your fingers will grow. As a result, you will be able to type without looking at the screen. When you use a different keyboard, it takes time to build finger muscle memory.

Stretch whenever you feel stiffness or pain

When your posture is incorrect or you are typing for a long time, you may feel stiffness or pain. In such a case, you should take a break and do some stretching exercises until you do not feel the stiffness and/or pain anymore. There are many stretching videos on YouTube.com. Learn some exercises from there.
